Projects of Andy Ball

Andy Ball of Ontario, Canada, sarrana@idirect.com made "Beezer the Buro" for a friend's daughter, Brittany. She is seen here "breaking" her new steed. Andy also provides some details on this project.

"The pattern is from Wooden Memories. It was made from 2X pine, and the main tools used were Dewalt scroll saw, DeWalt router [roundoverbits], DeWalt ROS, Makita belt sander, hand rasp and a ton of sandpaper and elbow grease. These plans are stocked locally by the Stockade in Guelph, Ontario, Canada but if you're not from that neck of the woods, they're available elsewhere too".

The plan for this chair is from Wood magazine.  These guys make it easy as they show how you can cut all material from dimensioned lumber. It's a great project for a beginner (like me) as it provides the opportunity to practice lap joints, scrolling, straight and angled ripping, routing and contour cutting. Plus the end result is a very sturdy, attractive and practical exterior use chair.

"The desk is solid pine except the back which is a pine face core board. The design was cloned from a Sears catologue picture, I am waiting for summer to apply a final finish."

"The TV cabinet is built using Wood magazine plans. I did not build the doors, instead I added a face frame. All mouldings including the fluted face, dentil and crown moulding were made on my router table. Again solid pine with a Masonite back."

"The "bird house" was built for my niece who despite being a 3rd year university student is still a Smurf nut. Again its just pine turned on the lathe and coloured using LV analine dies. I have been asked for more of these but in the natural colour."

"The SCMS station was really only built to contain dust, the 4" DC pipe enters though the rear floor. I still have to clean out the interior of this unit but at least no fine dust escapes into the shop. Its on wheels as is everything in my small 19" x 14" shop. I have yet to build the folding extensions.  If I were to build another I would make it slightly bigger as I am limited to 50 degree left and right cut upright and less in compound mode. E-mail me if you would like dimensions."

"The screen is again pine and made from a Canadian Workshop plan."
