"These are a gift box that hold a bottle of wine or some other favorite beverage. I made these from Port Orford Cedar, but any wood will do I'm sure. We like the Port Orford because it doubles as a room deodorizer. The single bottle box measures 4 1/2" wide by 4 1/2" deep by 13" tall. I started with 2" material which I resawed to 5/16" on my bandsaw and then finished to 1/4" with my planer. The tops and sides are joined with box joints. I used a rabbett joint to fasten the back to the sides, top, and bottom, and a dovetail joint to slide the box lid up and down. The top is recessed to allow clearance for the box lid.
They are a fun project and we hope they'll be popular as a Christmas gift for our friends. Anyone that wants to make one is welcome to contact us for more details. They can have a line drawing for free if they want one. It takes about twenty minute start to finish once you have your jigs set up. I made twenty of them in a short day. The next day my wife painted and/or stained them and viola - nice gift."
