Just Jigs
As we all know, jigs can make your time in the shop so much easier, faster and more enjoyable. As a means of passing along information on the great ideas of the many woodworkers who visit these pages, we are compiling here, both a visual and instructional library of the various jigs which all of us have made. As more are added to this "library", it is our hope that when you need a jig to make your shop-life easier, you'll be able to find it here.
If you have made something which helps you in the shop, send a photo of it to us along with some notes or drawings of it, and a description of how your jig helps you. Share it with everyone else so that your creation can assist other woodworkers, like it helps you. If it's your own idea, that's just fine. And if you made it from instructions you found elsewhere, that's fine too. Don't assume everyone else has already seen it, because chances are they haven't. This page is meant to be a resource for everyone to draw upon and your jig may be exactly what someone is looking for, in order to help them more easily accomplish their current task.
So please send photos of your jigs as attachments to your instructional information in your covering email to Grampa's Workshop at donfirth@grampasworkshop.net/.

Jig #1 - Square cutting Jig for Smaller Pieces by Don Firth, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
I thought I'd get things
started on this page with a simple little jig for assuring the
accuracy of repetitive cuts. When cutting small pieces,
cutting them perfectly square is of the utmost importance. Here's
a jig which will take the pain out of it, and save you all kinds
of time.
Jig #2 - Box-Joint Jig made by Dave (Vin) Vincent, Massachusetts, USA
After seeing instructions for this
excellent box-joint jig in the February '89 issue of Wood
Magazine, Vin constructed this great helper.
Dave says "half the fun of woodworking is using tools that you make yourself."
Jig #3 - Accurate Cut-off Jig by Don Firth, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
We've
all seen or built our own cut-off jigs for our table saws. But
when I came up with an idea to make an "adjustable"
cut-off jig, I was on to something good! It is very accurate, and
can be adjusted to maintain its accuracy, when necessary.
Jig #4 - Finger Joint Jig by Walt Matthews, Welland, Ontario, Canada
Here's
Walt's jig for cutting perfect finger joints. This way of cutting
finger joints is a bit simpler to construct than Dave Vincent's
adjustable jig above, but is just as accurate. Because of it's
simplicity, this jig might be the choice for the newer
woodworkers amongst us.
Jig #5 - Adjustable fence for your band saw by Ron Evers of Beeton, Ontario, Canada.
Ron made this adjustable fence for his saw. Have a look at it. It looks like a winner!
Jig #6 - Dust collector for your Drum Sander by Ron Evers of Beeton, Ontario, Canada.
If you're looking to keep your sanding dust under control, Ron's dust collector fills the bill! Have a look.
Jig # 7 - Saw Blade Caddie by Don Owen of Mount Peasant, Texas, USA
Here's one of Don's jigs or workshop accessories. Click the small photo at the left to see Don's work.
Jig # 8 - "Heart-Wheel" Jig by Vicki Hayden of Maryland, USA
Check out Vicki's Jig for making this attractice "Heart Wheel" by clicking on her wheel to the left.
Jig # 9 - Custom Sanding System by George Peters of Iroquois, Ontario, Canada
Here's a unique and customized home sanding system that you've gotta see. Click on the small photo to the left to learn more about George's great idea!
Jig #10 - Sharpener for all Chisels by George Peters of Iroquois, Ontario, Canada
This sharpening "gizmo" which George has rigged up, is just the thing to keep a good edge on all of your chisels, lathe tools and anything else that needs to be sharpened well! Click on the photo to the left to find out more!
