Mitch's Projects

Mitch, from Bremerton, Washington, MitchCPC@aol.com contributed this great rocker cradle to our gallery and his description follows.

"These projects I've made are called "Rocker Cradles". I have built one in Oak for my neice, and one in poplar for my daughter". Mitch's 4 year old daughter Amber shows off her dad's handiwork. Mitch continues, "I found the plans in a woodworking magazine. If anyone else has built one of these, I would like to see it.

The poplar wood was much easier to work with, and I think looks much nicer than the oak. These are buildable without a lot of fancy tools. In fact, I use a home made table saw with an old 9" craftsman saw bolted under a table.

I used a router for the mortise joints to secure the rockers to the legs, and a clear water base satin finish from Kelly-Moore. My wife actually lets me use this finish in the house because of it's low odor. Two coats do just fine. These take me about 26 hours to complete".

The plans for the Rocker Cradle are available in Vol. 10, No. 1, Issue #55, Jan./Feb. 1998 of Today's Woodworker.     http://todayswoodworker.com   e-mail   = editor@todayswoodworker.com
