Projects of Dino Pinchiaroli

Dino Pinchiaroli, a licensed contractor with a handyman business repair7@optonline.net of Roslyn, NY, USA joins our group of exhibitors and describes his projects below.

NOTE: This bed and nite table project of Dino's which he sent in a while back, has now been been updated - his planned complete set has now been completed and the newly added dresser follows his original photo of his bed and
nite tables.

He also included a nice stripping and refinishing job he did on a reclaimed (from the trash) curio cabinet.

"This project, the bed and 2 nite stands, is made using all mortise and tenion construction. The drawers are half blind dovetail quarter sawn white oak with walnut plugs. The drawer sides are mahogony.

The finish was sanded to 400 grit, burnished with 0000 steel wool. It has 4 coats Sam Malhoofs oil-poly followed with 2 coats Sam Maloofs oil-wax, which is available from Rockler.

The plans are from American Furniture Design.

Next is the dresser. Then I'll actually have a matching bedroom set!"

UPDATE:

"Its now a complete bedroom set, bed, 2 night tables and a dresser!

All quarter sawn white oak (about $1500 in rough sawn lumber), mortise and tennion construction, dovetailed drawers and a silky smooth finish that looks and feels like glass. I got about 200-250 man hours into the complete projects and all the wood.....white oak, maghoney, veneer plywood, exotic dowels, hardware(mission style drawer pulls and whatnot), finishing materials and supplies rubbing oil products, sandpaper, tack cloths, steel wool, disp. brushes, cups and everything else over $2000 ....was it worth it............?????? .............a big yes!

First the enjoyment, the pride in first class furniture, the look and last comparative pricing of similar handmade furniture where a complete set will run $8,0000 to $10,000 and the workmanship is a distant second to what you see here. It's not for sale, but if it were is $15,000 including the comforter set."

"This curio cabinet you see here, I found in the trash outside a house in Port Washington, NY here on Long Island. I chemically stripped off 2 coats of 50 year old milky pink enamel paint, gave it a light sanding and 3 coats of linseed oil/turpentine finish and rubbed it in real good, results ...a nice antique. original glass with the little air bubbles in the glass. Its a nice cabinet complete with worm holes. probably manufactured in the 1920's. This proves some garbage is just garbage while other garbage is hidden treasure."
