Planer Cart
When I got a new planer for my birthday, I knew I would have a space problem, so I would need some sort of portable stand for it. After searching the web for plans, I found a style which would work for me. By incorporating the existing design I had seen, with my own modifications, this is the result.
My
version has casters at one end and solid oak legs at the other,
made by gluing scraps of 1" oak together to get a 2" x
2" assembly and then shaping it into 2 legs. These 2" x
2" legs were attached with glue and screws to the bottom. I
also added 2 handles so that all you have to do is lift slightly
and wheel it to wherever you want to work, in my case, the
garage.

The unit is made from 3/4" poplar plywood, good 2 sides and is held together with glue and screws. It is 26" end to end, 23 1/2" overall side to side and 31 1/2" tall including the casters and legs. With the height being 31 1/2", the side edge fits under the work bench edge in the garage, so the cart doesn't encroach at all on space the car needs. Every couple of inches helps in a small garage!
The top platform on which the planer sits, is screwed to 1" wood strips which were both screwed and bolted to the sides and a small skirt was added to one end to give it even more rigidity and to make it more finished looking.

Two stretchers were added at the bottom to really firm it up which also created an area which could be used for storage of my metal detector and other accessories used with the planer. To complete the unit I made a lid for this storage area with brass handles for easy access.
The unit was finish sanded, and given 3 coats of MinWax Polyurethane varnish. The cost of the unit in total was about $60.00 (Cdn.)
