Ron Evers' Router Table

"This router table is constructed of two layers of 5/8” melamine laminated with contact cement and edge banded with solid mahogany. The opening is rabbeted to receive 9”x 12” x 3/8” UHMW plastic inserts. There are two inserts, one with a large hole for panel raising bits. The inserts are drilled so that any of my 4 routers can be mounted. The 9 x 12 insert allows for the router to be lifted out for bit changes or use free hand with a very stable base. The table slides over the bench for about 1/3 it’s width and is fastened in place with two ¼-20 stove bolts through the bench top into “T” nuts below. In Photo #2 the under-side of the table is shown and you can see the bolts and braces. The braces are notched out for the bench top and the ends of the braces butt against the bench skirting. In Photo #3 you can see how the assembly goes together. The router is plugged into a switched extension, which in turn is plugged into a power source above the bench. This is a safety feature that gives easy access to power control of the router. With only two bolts to mount this router table, it can be quickly removed from the bench top and stowed away under the bench across the spreaders as seen in Photo #4. The fence can be seen in photos #5 & 6. The fence is locked down using ¼-20 stud knobs into “T” nuts in the bottom of the table, which can be seen in Photo #2 near the ends of the braces. The front faces of the fence are adjustable so as to minimize the gap at each side of the router bit. The dust collection box is constructed of ¼” Plexiglas assembled with plastic model cement. With the fence set to minimal clearance to the router bit, the dust collection is about 90%."
