Projects of Sharon Sylvester
Sharon Sylvester shabob1@prodigy.net of Warwick, R.I., USA made these neat, fun projects. She describes them below.

"This is a Meisel pattern. I made it out of 1 1/4" pine with scraps for the overlays. I used macramé yarn for the mane and tail and I just had to put real eyelashes for the eyelids. I used a pickled oak finish and put a matte polyurethane over. I had to send it to Colorado for my grandson. He really enjoyed it."

I think the carousel horse mailbox is my next favorite. I couldn't find a pattern for what I wanted so I just sketched out the legs, head and tail on some 3/4 inch pine. My only problem with that was the parts of the body were kind of small for a standard mailbox. So then I proceeded to try to make a mailbox small enough for the body parts. It came out pretty good but after a while, my mail got wet so I had to resort to a regular mailbox. I used a table leg from Home Depot for the top of the pole and a metal pole for the bottom. I did some stenciling on the neck and put some rhinestones in the center of the flowers. My husband was quite surprised that it has held up so well with our crazy weather here. Quite a few people have stopped and rang my doorbell and wanted to know where I had gotten it. Then they wanted to know if I would make them one. With me, the first time I do something it is a challenge and after that it is a chore.
