"This is my latest project - a sort of combination bookshelf, desk, toy box that I came up with for my granddaughter's first birthday. It's made of 3/4" birch cabinet plywood and aspen face-framing and trim.
I used 1/2" cabinet ply on the back for strength. The toy box can be rolled out of the way on its casters to allow Maddie to slide the chair up to use it as a desk. Grams did the main painting and a friend did the fancy tolle painting and lettering. The unit measures 54" high by 29" wide by 20" deep with the work surface at 20" high."

"Two of these Noah's Arks and animals were made two Christmas's ago for my grandchildren who weren't here yet. The plans are from Woodworker's Journal, Nov/Dec '93. I don't care much for scrollsawing, but these animals were fun to make and I really became attached to them!"

"Here's a box I built for my youngest daughter and grandson Isaac as a "keepsake box". It's built of Home Depot "Aspen" and finished (not very well, I might add) with Minwax stain and satin poly. I even went to the trouble of using Minwax conditioner to prevent the blotching that you can see. If anyone out there has suggestions as to how to avoid this problem I'd love to hear from them. BTW, I don't blame Minwax; I'm sure it's something missing in my technique."

"The box was sized to hold at least 8 1/2 x 11 papers and ended up being 9" x 12" x 15. The 1/4" box joints were done on a shaper table using the Jointech IPM.
The problem is, with two daughters and a wife, you can never make just one of anything like this. I'm now two boxes behind!"

"1999 Appears to be our year for grandchildren - our first and second. The cradle, made of clear pine, was made when Madeleine Hope was on her way to see us and was completed one day after she arrived. We wanted her to sleep in it while she was here, so I didn't put a finish on it until later."

"The train, mostly of soft maple, is from plans in the December '92 Wood Magazine."
It is for our second grandchild, a boy, due in a few days. I can hardly wait to lay on the floor with him and make train noises!
